From the mouths of little star cafe guests:
Erin Martin I really enjoy Little Star Café. I generally end up there in the mornings and have always encountered friendly staff. I love the idea of dinner there, it just has not happened for our family more than once. The one dinner we had there was wonderful, the food was good, and the kids had a blast. Plus the adults got to chat =) The Walnut Creek area has needed something like this for quite awhile, and I feel like you have successfully filled that need with your café.
Nina McCallister We just found out about Little Star two weeks ago. I love coming here and my daughter Avery loves it too. I love being able to let her run free and not have to worry about her breaking anything. I love that the place is always clean, the waitstaff has always been super friendly, you have TV’s to entertain my husband and you serve Longboard! Everything I have ordered here has been very very tasty (asian chicken salad, tri tip sammy and the WHITE PIZZA x2!). We also order the sweet potato fries everytime: SUPER YUMMY! Even picky-eater Avery will eat the food! I will definitely be making this place a regular dining experience for my kids. Thank you for such a wonderful place.
Barbara Got over to the Café – finally – Saturday evening and I cannot even find the words to tell you how impressed, overwhelmed I was with the Little Star. You guys have really outdone yourselves. We (my Mom and son) were quite the attraction ourselves – the only people there without children but we really enjoyed everyone else’s. There was a large birthday party going on too so that was fun to see. I am going to email everyone I know who has little tykes (not that you appear to need more customers!!!!) because I know they would absolutely love it. The food was great and the waiter was about the most charming young man I have ever met. There was also a young woman, helping with the children who was a delight and very gracious to us. You guys have a real winner there and I plan to visit often. Again, super radio interview, you guys rock!
Angelica I wanted to e-mail to let you know we were very pleased with your staff and the service we received on Sunday. They were wonderful! We all enjoyed our meal (cupcakes included) and everyone loved your place. Thank you again.
Monaliza Fisher First, I would like to thank you for opening a wonderful place for parents and children to dine and play. I have visited your Café on a number of occasions and my children and I love it there. We love the food, the play area and the friendly staff.
Kristi Mack Hi – Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed Little Star Cafe. We were visiting the area from AZ and brought our 3 year old (it was her second time there with Grammy…my first time!) – what a wonderful concept and great time for kids. Sarah is very good with the kids as well in the little town area. We look forward to visiting again during an upcoming vacation to Walnut Creek.
Nina McCallister-Vila just wanted to say thank you for such a great day for my daughter’s 2nd birthday we had at Little Star Cafe this past Saturday. The server we had, Evan (forgive me if I got his name wrong) was great! We’ve had him before as our server and he was just as pleasant. The food was as great as expected and the cupcakes were awesome!
Tracy Jenson Hi Jennifer, I just wanted to thank you for a fantastic party! We all had a great time and I received many compliments on how well everything went (service, food, etc.). We couldn’t have asked for a better party.
Satisfied Customer I just want to say what a relief it was to go out for a good meal and not worry about my kids throwing tantrums or speaking loudly (OK, screeching). They were entertained and the waiter took exceptional care of us. This is not a 5-star dining experience by any means–no white table cloths, crumb catchers or fussy silverware exchanges with each course– but it wasn’t Chuck E. Cheese’s either.
What struck me was how satisfied and pleased everyone was in my party–kids and adults alike. How rare. I don’t care if they charge $7 per child to play in the supervised play area. At $3.50 per kid, per hour for a pleasant dining experience where EVERYONE gets what he/she needs (the kids aren’t confined and have ample distractions), it’s well worth it. Some things we had that we really enjoyed were the artichoke dip, bruschetta, sweet potato fries and a to-die-for cheesecake. We will be back!
Yelp User ‘5 stars’ – Jackie H., Oakland, CA My daughter was invited to a birthday party here – WOW, what an awesome party this was! The kids decorated cookie houses (which she got to take home as her party favor) in a private room and then had free reign of the play room. She loved it so much, we went back last weekend for dinner. Food was great, actually got to sit with our friends and talk, while the kids played. Couldn’t get them to leave. Love the colorful and whimsical decor! Friendly and helful staff too.
Yelp User ‘5 stars’- Ann F., Walnut Creek, CA 2009 I truly cannot say enough good things about this place. We go a couple of times a week (whenever possible), and every element is consistently great.
Things That Rock:
** Super clean, charming setting that ideal for kids & parents
** Amazingly, friendly & helpful staff that love their jobs
** Delicious food, including healthy options that taste decadent
** Free Wi-Fi is a great bonus — Mommy can Facebook, etc. while the little guys plays with lots of cool toys
** Choice of wine/beer or coffee makes it a perfect place to meet up
** Reasonably priced — $6 for 2 hours of semi-supervised care
It continues to evolve, and we all look forward to our visits at LSC no matter how often we go. Oh, and the easy parking just adds to the appeal.
Yelp User ‘4 stars’ – Ann B., Lafayette, CA Just went here for the first time this morning. I thought it was very clean and had a great variety of toys/activities for my toddler. It was nice to sit and actually chat with an adult while my daughter played (watching her through the window).
The vegan scone was so-so, won’t get that again. I thought the latte was great. The “admission” price is a little steep in my opinion, so I’m not sure how often we will come.
Yelp User ‘4 stars’ – Trish B., East Bay, CA Met my mom’s group here on a Friday morning. You can actually have a meal and watch the kids playing through the glass. Staff monitors the play area too. Lots of fun stuff to do. Just wish the floor was carpeted or foamy instead of industrial linoleum. The bathroom was clean and well-stocked. The menu has something for everyone including beer and wine! The coffee cake was very tasty and generously portioned. The organic Numi tea was yummy too. Very awesome place to kill a couple of hours and tire out the little ones.
Yelp User ‘3 stars’ – Candy C, Fremont, CA I just had to check out it since I missed a play date with my sis-in-law and nephews last Tuesday. It was a rainy Friday morning so I decided to bring my 18 month old son here after dropping off my daughter at school.
We arrived at around 10:00 and already the place had a handful of parents and children bustling about. You enter the place, someone greets you from the counter and hands you a menu, and invite you to take a seat where ever and someone will be right with you to take your order.
Immediately my son (who I thought would be too shy to do anything) began exploring the place – from the grocery area to the Little Star Town, including the kitchen area behind the check out counter (this is a no-no! not allowed there, although they do have a PLAY kitchen area). He rode the little cars, pushed the mini grocery cart, went down the baby slide, ran around the place, etc. etc. while I sat, watched the Food Network on one of the big screen t.v.’s, and ate a combo breakfast consisting of pancakes, two sausages, scrambled eggs, and a cup of hot gunpowder tea.
I agree with the fact that this place is geared to accommodate toddlers, and toddlers only. It’s a good size play area, but I think kids three and above will easily lose interest after awhile. This is definitely a cool spot where my boy and I can hang out on Friday mornings when his big sis is in school. We came at a good time because it wasn’t too busy. I like how Trader Joe’s is just around the corner.
The staff is friendly and the place is clean; like I said, a cool place to kick it with my 18 month old =.)
